What's behind 26th December?

For those who used to be in UK, Canada, Australia and even New Zealand, 26th Dec is a public holiday. It's called Boxing Day. First time I heard this term during my childhood in Glasgow, and I went like " is dat da day for everybody to knoch each other's head or what?". Well, its nothing to do with The Contender or WWF.
It used to be called St. Stephens day. Saint? means related to christianity. But, now in these contemporary days, Boxing Day is more to public holiday because for St Stephen's day, it cant be carried forward. Like 25th Dec is Friday. So, Boxing day is on Saturday. And that's weekend and already a holiday. So, somesort of goverment or authorities will make boxing day on Monday. Therefore, everybody will get their free holiday although it's not 26the Dec anymore. But, not all countries change the date for Boxing day. Some just cary on with the day, though it's during weekend. For St Stephen's day, it must be 26th no matter what. Originally, St Stephen's and Boxing day is the same, but now, it turned to be different. Im sure not many people know (even christians) bout St Stephen's day anymore, and went like, "What? wats zat?". How do I know? (Reading jer.. nak temuramah tak mampu.isk3)

Boxing day, now is for shopping where early in the morning people line up in front of Debenhams or Marks and Spencer. Because the shopping complex will be wanting to clear up their stocks, so we get stuffs for veryyyy cheapp price! Boxing Day= Shopping day!

26th Dec, is the date of Tsunami that happened last few years (I think... or was it last year??). Ive been one of the places where Tsunami hits! That's Phuket and went to the hotel that's used to be in tv3 as Tsunami was badly hit there. Across the hotel, there was a spot for those who died of Tsunami. Freaky a bit when u think that there're used to be bodies here and there lying in the hotel lobby and such, but my mummy and daddy's also here. So hakuna matata (means no worries, thats in Lion King).

Now Phuket is a place where tourists lying around, pubs, inappropiate-dressing women, sunbathing, spa, massage and such and it looks nothing like a tragedy used to happen there. Unfortunate fact bout Phuket is it certainly not a place to buy stuff. Everything was like whoa! so expensive. Better go to Sabasun in Terengganu, jer!! **wink2

Actually there're lots to tell bout 26th Dec, but im just focussing on these two because my friend asked me bout Boxing Day. That's why I wrote this post. So, to my friend, do read and hope u satisfied with my answer.

Other events on 26th Dec:
-Battle of Geisberg (french defeat austrians)
- Nissan company was organised
-FM radio was patented

-and many2 more (too many to be listed)
